GLOBAL Trust Bank Ltd (GTB) and BPL Mobile Communications Ltd announced the signing of an agreement to launch mobile phone banking shortly in Mumbai. The facility would be powered by software being provided by Infosys Technologies.
With this, GTB customers using their BPL Mobile cell phones would be able to enquire into the balance in their account, review the last five transactions, request for statement by fax, seek information about cheques, transfer funds between customers acco

In a press communique issued here, the GTB Executive Director, Mr. Sridhar Subasri, said: ``For us at GTB, this is a very important strategic initiative considering the rapid proliferation of cell phones and other hand-held devices. The technology we are
deploying will cover both the short messaging system (SMS), which can be used on all existing GSM cell phones as well as the wireless application protocol (WAP), which is the emerging standard worldwide.''
According to a BPL Mobile spokesperson, the strategic alliance with GTB was intended to provide its customers with maximum flexibility and convenience to access and transact on their banking accounts anywhere, anytime using their mobile phones.
