ITC Infotech gets CMM-5 certification
Our Bureau
CALCUTTA, Sept. 6
ITC Infotech India Ltd, the recently created wholly-owned subsidiary of ITC Ltd, has been certified at Level 5 on the globally-recognised Capability Maturity Model (CMM), a certification framework designed by the Software Engineering Institute of the Car
negie Mellon University, US.
According to a company statement issued here on Monday, CMM certification is issued after evaluating the total quality management in a software organisation. An assessment team led by Mr. Richard F. Storch of Global Systems Technology, USA, announced ITC
Infotech's certification in Bangalore recently.
The existing Informations Systems Division of ITC was converted into a corporate entity on August 21, through creation of ITC Infotech India, which became a wholly-owned subsidiary through subscription of 2 lakh shares in the new outfit by ITC Ltd. ITC i
nfotech Plc is a separate UK-based wholly-owned subsidiary of ITC, engaged in the provision of IT services and development and support of software.
CMM Level 5 is said to be the highest process maturity level that any software organisation can attain, and is normally accorded in calibrated steps from levels 1 to 5. ITC Infotech has bagged the Level 5 recognition in a single assessment, it is pointed
out. The process involves a detailed review of organisational and project documentation, and evaluative interviews with nearly 50 per cent of the employees of the organisation. The findings are then measured against the Software Institute's CMM norms.
According to Mr. Y. C. Deveshwar, Chairman, ``the certification is a recognition of the group's constant endeavour to globally benchmark itself against each of its businesses''.
