Cement: Down with volumes
THE sharp decline in the output of cement in August may dampen market sentiment for stocks in the sector.
In August, cement production declined by 14 per cent over the levels of July 2000 and 2.2 per cent over July 1999 levels. Coming as it does on the heels of a sluggish quarter in the April-June period, the decline in offtake could trigger concerns about t
he profitability levels in the industry. Stocks such as Larsen & Toubro, ACC, Gujarat Ambuja and India Cements, among others, may show price weakness in the short term. -- BL Research Bureau
