Transitions Optical subsidiary

BANGALORE: Transitions Optical Inc, the world's leading manufacturer of variable tint optics (VTO lenses), on Wednesday announced the setting up of a wholly-owned subsidiary in India with an initial investment of $2 million.

The new entity, Transitions Optical India Pvt Ltd, will be based in Bangalore and produce warehouse Transitions Lenses for the company's lenscaster customers, Essilor and Sola, India.

The immediate impact of setting up a subsidiary would be increased access to a wider range of products such as finished single vision and finished single vision AR lenses, said Mr Debashis Chatterjee, Country Manager, Transitions Optical Pvt Ltd.

Transitions Optical is headquartered in Pinellas Park, US, and has manufacturing facilities in Ireland, the Philippines, Australia and the US.

``Our experience in India over the last three years has made us very optimistic about the Indian market and setting up a subsidiary is a logical progression of our plans,'' said Mr Brett Craig, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Transitions Optical Inc. - - Our Bureau
