HSBC.com to debut in Nov
Our Bureau
BANGALORE, Sept. 13
HSBC plans to kick-off its Internet banking campaign in the country in November. The bank has decided to introduce its Net initiative through HSBC.com.
``We will offer our Internet banking solution to our personal banking clientele first and later to our corporate customers here,'' said Mr Lawrence Webb, Regional Manager, Asia Pacific, global payments and cash management, HSBC.
Internet banking is not a new concept in India with most private banks and foreign banks offering online services to their customers. HSBC, which has launched its online services in markets such as the US and the UK, has decided to go slow on the same in
the Asian markets.
Asked why it took the bank so long to launch Internet banking in India, Mr Webb said, ``it is a question we are asked often, but we wanted to offer our customers a complete solution.''
Mr Webb told Business Line that HSBC.com would enable customers to access their bills and make payments through the Net, besides conduct other usual banking transactions. The bank is in talks with various other agencies, including other banks, for a tie
up at a later date.
Later this month, HSBC will launch `cheque outsourcing' for its corporate customers, which will enable companies to outsource large-value payments. It has already launched its CMS product, `Hexagon', for corporate clients here.
