SAP Tech meet opens in Bangalore
Our Bureau
BANGALORE, Sept. 18
SAP Technology Summit 2000, the first to be held outside the US, began here today. Hosted by SAP Labs India, the development subsidiary of SAP AG, the three-day summit will showcase technology and business models based on and around the Internet.
SAP, according to Mr Peter Zencke, executive board member SAP AG, is now repositioning itself from an ERP (enterprise resource planning) to an Internet company, and mySAP.com reflects its commitment to e-business.
This, he said, was a significant step beyond e-commerce as companies seek to extend their investment in technology to adapt to Internet business landscape.
Customer focus being the buzzword of the new economy, services have to add to the manufacturer's products and elements such as price, quality of product and time-to-market, which were going to be the key factors. Mr Zencke said mySAP.com is the basis of
SAP's ability to deliver customer-centric, open, personalised and collaborative `interprise' solutions on demand.
The Wipro Vice-Chairman, Mr Vivek Paul, said the fact that SAP had brought its technology summit to India proved that the Indian software talent had come of age. Besides, IT had changed the business paradigm from being cost-centric to source of competiti
ve advantage.
