Keltron arm to sign MoU with DRDO

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Dec.5
KELTRON Component Complex Ltd (KCCL), a subsidiary of the public sector Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron), is set to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for production
of modern equipment for the physically disabled.
KCCL is establishing a Centre for Rehabilitation of the Physically Disabled at Keltron Controls at Aroor in Alapuzha district for the manufacture of the equipment. DRDO will transfer the technology to KCCL for equipment such as ``knee locking artificial
limbs'' using modular design, ``myo-electric hand'' and other high-end products, according to a statement from Keltron.
The centre will take up future improvement in the quality of these aids and also impart training to those involved in the rehabilitation of the physically handicapped.
The centre will also manufacture tricycles and wheel-chairs for the disabled utilising the company's spare capacity in the fabrication facility. In the current year, it will produce 400 tricycles and 200 wheel-chairs for Kerala State Handicapped Persons
Welfare Corporation Ltd. The production will be raised to 600 tricycles and 400 wheel-chairs in the following year.
The company also plans to develop crutches, hearing aids, artificial limbs and calipers in the coming years, the statement said.
