`India calling' meet for NRIs

MUMBAI, Dec. 8

THE Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC) is organising a conference on investment by NRIs labelled as `India calling'. The conference is aimed at providing a platform for an open dialogue between NRI investors and the Government officials.

The three-day conference will be held in Mumbai from January 5.

The IMC has also announced the formation of a special cell for this purpose called the `Millennium Centre'.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr Y.P. Trivedi, Chairman of IMCs Overseas Indians Cell, said, ``The Millennium Centre would be shortly set up to cater to the NRI requirements in areas such as financial services, industry, information technology, housing, healthcare, professional services, liasioning with Central and State Government and education institutions''.

The chamber wants the Government to carry out an in-depth study to examine the proposal to confer `dual citizenship' rights to overseas Indians.

Ms Sharayu Daftary, IMC President, said that IMC would like to welcome Indians back and would provide all support to facilitate their investments in various sectors of the domestic economy.
