Wilnetonline commissions gateway
AHMEDABAD: Wilnetonline, the category `A' ISP promoted by the Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd (CPL), has commissioned its first international gateway here.
This will be followed by the commissioning of two more international gateways in Mumbai and Delhi by March.
Set up at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, the gateway connects its users with Internet networks in four continents -- North America, Europe, Asia and Australia -- through the Singapore Telecom's Satellite ST-1 and the Singapore Internet exchange.
Wilnet is among the first few ISPs in Ahmedabad, having commenced operations in October 1996 as a franchisee of VSNL.
Mr D.B. Sehgal, President of Wilnet Communications Pvt Ltd, said that Wilentonline's gateway will initially provide an uncompressed bandwidth of 10 Mbps which can later be expanded to 45 Mbps.
``This flexibility to expand would give the company tremendous leverage as it would be able to gear up operations as per demand,'' he added.
Currently, the ISP provides services to 10 cities of Gujarat as also Delhi, Mumbai and Jodhpur in Rajasthan. It is scheduled to reach the two cities of Jaipur and Jammu soon and will have a total coverage of 25 cities by 2001-end.
The company has earmarked Rs 10 crore for investments in expanding its network during the next 12 months. -- Our Bureau
