Plea to hike import duty on crude palm oil
THE Union Government should hike the import duty on crude palm oil too, as it did on palmolein, to impart some measures of protection to the domestic oilseeds processing industry as well as the farmers, Mr M. Rajaiah, President of the Andhra Pradesh Rice Bran Oil Extractors' Association and the senior Vice-President of the Central Organisation for Oil Industry and Trade, has said.

IIHR plan to raise yield of horticultural crops
THE Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bangalore, one of the largest of its kind in Asia, has formulated a mission-oriented perspective plan for the coming two decades. The plan aims at keeping constant the percentage of cultivated area u nder horticultural crops, which is about four per cent, and achieve a growth rate in productivity of around four per cent per year.

THE prices of Indian cardamom are likely to remain at moderately higher levels during the current season as the production in Guatemala, the major supplier in the global market, is reported to be much below the projected 14,000 tonnes this year.
