CII Partnership Summit at Hyderabad -- Special session for interface with Gulf, WANA region

ABU DHABI, Jan. 4
A SPECIAL session on economic co-operation and business opportunties between India and the Gulf, West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region will be held during the forthcoming CII Partnership Summit 2001, scheduled to open on January 9 in Hyderabad.
The economic session, to be held at the summit on January 11, is being organised as part of CII's special initiative for the Gulf and West Asian region, according to a statement made available to Business Line on Thursday by the Principal Advisor, CII, M
r A.C. Patankar.
Delegations from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Bahrain and Qatar will be participating in the summit. In addition, the ambassadors of Egypt, Morocco, Oman, Turkey, Tunisia and Yemen will attend.
The delegation members will also meet the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, and State Government officials. Andhra Pradesh, the partner state in the summit, is vigorously promoting investment and business cooperation with countri
es in the Gulf region.
Among the participants at the special economic session are Mr Sheikh Tariq bin Faisal Al Qasimi, Chairman, Sharjah Free Zones, Prof Abdullah Hussein Dwaood Al Azdi, Economics and International Cooperation Department, UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr T
ayeb Al Kamali, Director, and Dr Peter Rutland, Higher Colleges of Technology, Mr Mohan Jashanmal, Chairman, Indian Business/Professional Group, (IBPG), Abu Dhabi and Mr Suresh Kumar, Governor, Indian Business Council, Dubai.
Mr Ganesh Srinivasan, Chairman of the Indian Business/Professional Network in Qatar and Mr Ganesh Raja, Country manager, India, Bahrain Promotions and Marketing Board, will also be participating.
Mr Mohan Jashanmal of the IBPG told Business Line that Abu Dhabi was keen on expanding cooperation in the area of small and medium industries. ``Indian expertise in this field as well as possibilities for setting up joint ventures in Abu Dhabi are what w
e will be focusing at during the session,'' he said.
CII currently has cooperation arrangements with several chambers of commerce in the region, including the Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah chambers in the UAE, the Bahrain and Qatar chambers, Federation of Egyptian Industries, Tunisian Union for Industry, Co
mmerce and Handicrafts and General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises as well as several investment promotions
agencies, particularly in Bahrain and Oman.
