Essar clarifies

Jacob John K., Corporate Communications

Essar Steel Ltd

This refers to the article, ``Measuring risks of fixed-income instruments'' (Business Line, December 24, 2000).

Though the article refers to Essar Steel as a hypothetical case, we would like to state that Essar Steel has not taken any fixed deposit from the public for the last eight years and there are no outstanding deposits. Also, at no point of time have credit -rating agencies rated us as default grade for any of our debt instruments.
