T.C. Goel takes over at Dunlop
Our Bureau
KOLKATA, April 30
DR M.D. Shukla has been relieved by the management of Dunlop India Ltd of his assignment as president of the company with immediate effect.
Mr T.C. Goel, currently Executive Director and President of Falcon Tyre, has been appointed CEO and President of DIL.
Dr Shukla had recently sought to be relieved of his responsibilities on health grounds. In a press note issued here on Monday, a DIL spokesperson said, ``The management is concerned about Dr Shukla's health. Dr Shukla in a letter to the DIL chairman, Mr
M.R. Chhabria, had informed that he requires to undergo an immediate heart surgery and therefore, would like to be relieved of his duty.''
It is, however, stated that Dunlop is a strong brand and the promoters (the Jumbo group of Mr Chhabria) see a great opportunity and Mr Chhabria's contribution of Rs 26 crore in the past few months is a testimony to this intent.
Appointment of Mr Goel as president shows a further commitment on behalf of the promoters to revive DIL.
Since both Dunlop and Falcon belong to the same group and are in tyre business, assigning Mr Goel with the additional responsibility of DIL will synergise.
It is said that he was responsible for setting up and commissioning of various projects in his previous assigments in cement, fertiliser, textile and fibre and tyres industries in India and abroad. Falcon's strengths could be well translated into Dunlop'
s as well, the spokesperson said.
