ONGC drilling unit completes repair works at Kochi

KOCHI, April 30
THE mobile offshore drilling unit of ONGC, Sagar Bhushan has sailed off from Cochin Shipyard after major upgradation and repair works.
The 15-year-old rig, capable of drilling for oil in water depths of up to 300 metres, arrived at CSL for routine lay up repairs and electrical and machinery repairs. CSL won the assignment against very stiff international competition, a press release iss
ued here said.
The repair package included steel renewal, revamping of equipment and upgradation of various facilities, accommodation and survey tasks, renewal of pipelines, drilling instrumentation, bulk handling systems etc.
The latest cementing technology with cement slurry generated from the system itself, has been adopted in the vessel by installation and commissioning of re-circulating mixer. The equipment was procured, installed and commissioned by CSL.
The vessel is likely to be deployed on the Eastern coast for exploration of oil. The press release also said that CSL had earlier upgraded the MODU Sagar Vijay of ONGC and upgraded its drilling capacity from 300 m to 900 m. Subsequently, the rig had succ
essfully drilled up to 800 metres in the Krishna Godavari basin.
