Politics
Creditable
The reported advice of the Kerala Governor, Mr Kang, to the Chief Minister, Mr A. K. Antony, against the Ministerial appointment of Mr Balakrishna Pillai on the grounds of his conviction, is creditworthy. One only wishes Mr Pillai did not insist on his s on, Mr Ganesh, taking his place.

Stocks
Come clean if corrupt
`JPC members should come clean on links' (Business Line, May 16) made interesting reading. The stock scam is nothing but a white-collared crime and apparently, the nexus of every crime is with people in power. The plea to `unearth' scams; `bringing the c ulprit' to book are meant only to deceive the public. Ultimately, nothing substantial happens.

SEBI's decision on FIs
SEBI, in its recent order dated May 11 2001 touched upon an important issue affecting all companies that had allotted shares to financial institutions, as part of conversion of loan to equity.
