A will has a way

Preeti Mehra

Deserving students who have the will, but not the means now have another avenue of finance open to them. The Apeejay Surrendra Group has launched The Paul Foundation, dedicated to provide an opportunity to needy students to pursue their academic goals i n the country and overseas.

In continuation of their commitment to promoting and supporting education, the Foundation has chosen specific criteria for the candidates. Open to both boys and girls below 30 years of age, it considers children whose family income is less than one lakh rupees per annum. Stressing the Foundation's unbiased selection process, it welcomes candidature from all castes, creed and religion. However, it does not support the study of medicine or management overseas.

The chairperson of the Foundation, Shirin Paul, explains the company's commitment in the field of education, ``It is indeed unfortunate when promising students are unable to pursue their careers due to financial constraints. We sincerely hope to give the se students the right opportunity, enabling them to go on for higher studies in India and overseas and emerge as leaders in their chosen fields.''

The company has instituted a Board of Governors that features eminent scholars including the vice chancellor of Calcutta University and the chairman of the Indian Council for Philosophical Research. The selection committee too will have illustrious soci al thinkers and academics.

For the company it's their way of repaying the community and country. For the student it could be a dream come true.
