Provisional duty recommended on hexamine imports

K.R. Srivats

NEW DELHI, May 20

THE Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry has recommended the imposition of provisional anti-dumping duty on all imports of hexamine from Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Hexamine is a white crystalline powder and its important industrial use is in the manufacture of solid phenolic resins. It is also used for preservation of hides, as a rubber vulcanisation accelerator and in adhesives and coatings.

The authority has recommended a provisional anti-dumping duty of $0.19 per kg in the case of all exports of hexamine from Saudi Arabia and $0.28 per kg in the case of all exporters of hexamine from Russia.

The petition seeking anti-dumping investigations on hexamine imports from Saudi Arabia and Russia was filed by Simalin Chemical Industries Ltd, Baroda and Rockhard Petrochemical Industries Ltd, Indore.

The petition has been supported by Kanoria Chemicals & Industries Ltd (KCIL), which is the largest manufacturer of hexamine in the country.

The total imports of hexamine during the period of investigation (April 1999 to September 2000) stood at 1230.85 tonnes (mt.) as against total Indian production level of 11,765 mt during this period.

While the petitioners produced 5,200 mt of hexamine during April 1999 to September 2000, KCIL had produced 5,679 mt of hexamine during the same period.
