THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 20

THE World Bank has approved a Rs 1,350-crore proposal for development of roads and waterways in Kerala.

The project envisages development of 1,650 km of highways and important district roads and 105 km of inland waterways, according to an official statement.

A team of officials from the World Bank held discussions with the Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, in this regard here on Saturday. Kerala is the third State in the country to receive the approval of the World Bank for a project of this kind.

The work on the roads and inland waterways included in the project, which has been entrusted with Public Works Department, is expected to begin in October this year.
