RSP geared for customised HR coils

Our Bureau

KOLKATA, May 27

ROURKELA Steel Plant of SAIL is now fully geared to roll customised hot-rolled (HR) coils. RSP's HR coils, following the maximisation of the existing process at its hot strip mill (HSM), are on par with the HR coils of Bokaro Steel Plant.

According to RSP management sources, the toning up process had been carried out in the wake of the improvement in the demand for superior quality HR coils both the in the domestic and international markets.

Among the processes that have brought about the quality improvement are the use of additional roughing stand, coil box and automated gauge control system. Currently, experiments are on at HSM for rolling longer slabs to maximise the coil weight to 15 ton nes and thereby making the product more competitive in the market.
