Help Bangalore!

Karthik Kumar, Bangalore

You hit the nail on the head in the article, ``B for Bangalore, B for biotech'' ( May 7). We the citizens of Bangalore have too much traffic on the roads, too less power, too many people and too less water.

Please, we'd love to be the biotech capital but ... not at the cost of our very existence. Could we please put into place infrastructure before we invite investments in biotech. And it's possible to have an integrated development plan... if we really wan t it.

Give them light

Radhika Patel, New Delhi

The Tilonia experiment with lighting using solar energy, made interesting reading -- `` Solar power sees the light of day'' (May 7).

Why can't others follow this Rajasthan initiative. The trouble with India is that experiments that work are never replicated on a large scale in other potential areas. If we did that, half the battle would be won.

Tourism with a difference

N.S. Haridas, Hyderabad

The travel piece on Nepal that talked about village tourism was informative -- `` A village like Sirubari'' ( May 21). Nepal is very serious about promoting tourism and is using innovative methods to do it.

I wish India would also use its assets ( and it has far more than Nepal ever could) and build up the tourism industry. There is potential, but apart from the States of Kerala and Rajasthan, none other has shown any serious inclination. `Village tourism' could be a great concept for us too.
