Time-bound plan for irrigation schemes

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Minister for Irrigation, Mr T. M. Jacob, has said that a priority list of irrigation schemes in different stages of completion will be drawn up in order to prepare an action plan for their time-bound implementation.

Addressing a meeting of chief engineers of the Irrigation Department, he said top priority should be accorded to those schemes which are closest to being completed. Priority should be also given in terms of the largest area that can be brought under irri gation.

The Minister emphasised the need for observing maximum financial discipline in the execution of various schemes. The chief engineers should also explore the possibilities of tapping sources other than the Government for raising the finances required for the project. -- Our Bureau
