Bajaj to launch new tractors by month-end

THREE-wheeler and tractor manufacturer Bajaj Tempo will launch a new 25 HP tractor and two new variants of its existing 35 and 45 HP tractors by July-end. The company is also gearing up for the launch of its new tractor plant which is expected to go on s tream by early August.

The Chairperson and Managing Director, Mr Abhay Firodia, when contacted, told Business Line that the company was broadbasing its tractor portfolio with a new 25 HP tractor which is high on technology.

The tractor, now under test, will sport features such as a 4-cylinder engine, wet disc brakes, Bosch hydraulics, ZF transmission and 2-speed PTO, ordinarily found only on high-ticket tractors.

The company will also launch two completely redesigned models of its existing 35 and 45 HP tempo OX tractors by end of July, Mr Firodia said, declining however, to give further details.

Highly placed sources within the company said the new products would be launched under a new brandname, `Balwan', and would be targeted primarily at pockets in Punjab and Haryana.

The company will, meanwhile, inaugurate its new tractor manufacturing line at its Akurdi manufacturing facilities by early August, Mr Firodia said, adding that the new tractors would be manufactured from this line.

``We expect sales to pick up significantly with the new models,'' he said. It is also simultaneously working on a new-generation 60 HP tractor, which is currently under development, sources said.
