What day is it?

Over 1.3 billion people worldwide live in abject poverty with no idea how to improve their living standards. The pressure is growing on water, air and land and severely straining the environment. The demand for water exceeds supply in parts of the world and the land available for crops is decreasing.

While millions struggle to make a decent living, the top one- fifth lives a high-consumption, high-waste lifestyle. Meanwhile, for most people, like the thousands thronging this railway station in Mumbai, Population Day is just like any other.
