DD launches news portal

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, July 10

AFTER a delay of five months, Doordarshan has finally put in place its first portal at ddinews.com. This is the first phase of the venture and other portals would be launched later.

The project, a joint venture between Satyam Infoway and Doordarshan, is estimated to cost Rs 2.5 crore.

The news site will provide personalised news and will enable the portal identify customers, thereby targeting advertising and merchandising specifically at them.

The delay in launch has been attributed to the downturn in the market.

At a press conference, Mr A.V. Ram Mohan, President, e-Business Satyam Infoway, said: ``ddinews.com is the first DD vertical channel paving the way for the launch of other channels in a phased manner. This has been built on the leading edge BroadVision p latform which enables personalisation of content.''

Ms Deepak Sandhu, Deputy Director General of DD News said, ``The news site is a step by DD to meet the challenges of a free flowing global media and the growing demand for a one-stop site for India-related news.''

The site will cater to NRIs and Indophiles and will post news as it happens, Web streaming and Webcasting.
