No ceiling on wheat product exports this year

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, July 11

THE Commerce Ministry has said there would be no quantitative ceiling for export of wheat products during 2001-02. In a notification issued on July 10, the Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has stated that wheat products have been allowed to be ex ported `without any quantity ceiling' for the year 2001-02.

Further, the Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has been made the designated agency for issuing registration-cum-allocation certificates (RCACs) for this purpose, DGFT has stated.

The decision to allow exports of wheat products freely comes even as the Union Cabinet, on Tuesday, decided to allocate 20 lakh tonnes of wheat from the Food Corporation of India's (FCI) stocks to roller flour mills for export purposes.

The allocation has been made subject to the condition that the wheat products exported would constitute at least 65 per cent of the wheat lifted from FCI's godowns for this purpose. The base price for allocation of the 20 lakh tonnes wheat for export of products would be decided by FCI's High Level Committee.
