Airlines offer rebates to US

Our Bureau

CHENNAI, July 14

ALL airlines on west-bound routes have come out with an attractive one-way fare this year. This is presumably aimed at the student community which begins its yearly migration to US universities.

The average fare available in the market is around Rs 25,000. According to sources, Air France has come out with a one-way fare to the east coast at Rs 20,000, the mid-west at Rs 22,000 and the west Coast at Rs 25,000.

Sabena, which flies out of Chennai, has come out with a one-way fare to the US priced at Rs 26,000. The Belgian carrier has also come out with a 30 per cent discount off the published fare till August 15 on Business Class.

Since May this year, air fares have been moving south due to excess capacity and poor demand. The rates are dropping every week and all airlines are coming out with various offers to woo customers.
