TN textile TUs to meet on July 21

Our Bureau

COIMBATORE, July 14

THE joint action council of the Tamil Nadu textile workers' trade unions will meet here on July 21 to discuss the textile mill workers wage issue.

The JAC meeting in which the State-level representatives of the workers unions are to participate is expected to take stock of the situation arising out of the stalemate in the recent conciliatory talks held before the State Labour Department to resolve the pending dispute in the revision of wages for over two lakh textile mill workers in the State.

The meeting is also likely to chalk out future course of action including, if necessary, agitational programme to press the early implementation of a negotiated wage settlement.

The two rounds of conciliatory talks held last month before the State Labour Minister, in which both the workers unions leaders and different textile mill management associations took part, failed to bring any rapprochement with both sides sticking to th eir respective stand in the issue.

While the textile workers unions insist on an industry-wide wage settlement, the mill management bodies rejected the possibility of having any industry-wide wage accord.
