Driving school for underprivileged
NEW DELHI: Citicorp Maruti Finance Ltd (CMFL), the 74:26 joint venture between Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) and Citicorp Ltd, today announced a partnership with SHARAN, a non-Government organisation for setting up a driving school exclusively for `underprivile
ged youth'.
The project called `Top-gear' aims to promote motor driving as a vocational skill for unemployed youth and involves establishing a driving school and identifying candidates from slums and resettlement colonies in the Capital for training them to be profe
ssional drivers.
Through the project, the NGO has targeted providing training to up to 200 persons over a year. The training project is part of Citicorp's (a subsidiary of Citibank) community development initiatives.
As a gesture for initiating the project, CMFL presented SHARAN with their first car for the driving school.
CMFL currently finances over 11 per cent of all the cars sold under the Maruti stable. The joint venture company, which commenced operations in mid-1998, has a presence in 44 locations all over the country. -- Our Bureau
