Jute packaging order extended
NEW DELHI: The Government has decided to extend by one week the present notification under the Jute Packaging Material (compulsory use in packing commodities) Act of 1987, pending approval of a new notification by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affair

CCEA is expected to consider the new notification when it meets later this week.
Official sources said the present notification would now be valid till August 6, unless the new notification becomes effective earlier.
As per the present stipulations, use of jute packing material is compulsory for up to 90 per cent in the case of both foodgrains and sugar and 15 per cent in the case of urea.
While the jute industry has been demanding continuation of the present packaging order, the plastic industry has said the reservation should be done away with. - Our Bureau
