Nalco net at Rs 159.45 cr

NEW DELHI,Aug. 9
NATIONAL Aluminium Company (Nalco), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Mines, has earned a net profit after tax of Rs 159.45 crore in the first quarter of this fiscal. Its gross sales turnover during the quarter was Rs 774.08 crore and exp
ort earnings Rs 315.82 crore. It achieved a gross profit Rs 242.74 crore and a net profit before tax of Rs 211.45 crore during this period.
The company has produced 3,49,900 tonnes of calcined alumina during the quarter crossing its target of 3,42,000 tonnes.
It has produced 75,464 tonnes of aluminium cast metal against a target of 76,800 tonnes. Bauxite production during the quarter was 770,835 tonnes.
During July 2001, the company's calcined alumina production was 91,700 tonnes against a target of 87,000 tonnes. It produced 18,510 tonnes of aluminium cast metal during the month against a target of 19,500 tonnes. The gross sales turnover during the mon
th was Rs 182.06 crore and export earnings Rs 67.23 crore.
Nalco is currently implementing a Rs 2,062-crore expansion project to enhance the smelting capacity from the current level of 2,30,000 tonnes per annum to 3,45,000 tonnes. The capacity of the captive power plant is being increased from 740 MW to 840 MW.
