Greens to challenge BMIC project
Our Bureau
BANGALORE, Aug. 15
THREE environmental groups have said they would challenge the environmental clearance given recently to the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project.
They would seek civil and legal recourse to stop the project which the MoEF cleared by ``fundamentally flawed decision'' on a ``controversial project,'' Mr Leo Saldanha, Coordinator, Environment Support Group, and Major General S.C. Vombatkere, Convener,
Mysore Grahakara Parishat, said.
These two and the Karnataka Vimochana Ranga have been opposing the mega project on environmental and social grounds, including that it displaces nearly two lakh small farmers and labourers.
An NHRC report on violence during the public hearings is also due and an expert committee reviewing infrastructure projects has also been ignored, they said.
