Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Sept. 17

Coca-Cola India has till date invested Rs 47 crore in installing pollution control equipment in the market place. This is in line with the parent company's global Ozone Protection Policy that was formulated and implemented in 1992.

The Indian subsidiary has subsequently implemented a voluntary and total freeze on purchase of equipment containing chloro-fluoro-carbons or CFCs, since 1994. Its investments in CFC-free equipment last year, was about Rs 100 crore, according to a company release issued here.

Coca-Cola India has been in the process of placing equipment that uses non-CFC refrigerants since 1995. Subsequently, it has over 2,72,000 coolers and refrigerators in the market that are CFC-free.

Besides this, the company had also undertaken to incorporate eco-friendly features in its manufacturing plants and not using asbestos roofing was one such example, the communique said.

The company is also collaborating with equipment suppliers to introduce the latest technologies in the domestic market.

The company recently joined hands with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board to celebrate the International Day for Preservation of the Ozone Layer.
