New SSI policy on the anvil

Our Bureau

COIMBATORE, Sept. 17

A GROUP of Ministers is studying a report on evolving a new policy covering the tiny, medium and small-scale industries and a formal policy decision is expected by December.

On the basis of the report submitted by a study committee under Mr S.P. Gupta from the Planning Commission which had prepared the report after extensive discussions, a law covering small enterprises may be enacted, according to Mr D. Gandhikumar, Preside nt, Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA).

Speaking to newspersons here, he said there would be special focus on the tiny sector because of its large employment generation whereas the medium and small-scale sectors may be clubbed together. The policy would cover various parameters like cap on inv estment, subsidy, etc.
