Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Oct. 29

INDO-German bilateral trade is expected to cross the 10 billion Deutsche Mark (DM) (approximately Rs 20,000 crore) level during the calendar year 2001, with the bilateral trade touching the 5 billion DM level during January-June 2001.

According to Dr D. Kebschull, Director, Indo-German Export Promotion Project (IGEP), Germany's exports to India have gone up by 18.56 per cent to 2.3 billion DM (Rs 4,600 crore) during January-June 2001 as against 1.94 billion DM (Rs 3,880 crore) in the same period during the previous year.

India's exports to Germany during the first six months of the current calendar year stood at 2.7 billion DM (Rs 5,400 crore) as against exports value of 2.3 billion DM (Rs 4,600 crore) during the same period in the previous year.

Dr Kebschull is of the view that the current global economic situation as well as the recent happenings in the US will have no impact on Indo-German trade relations.
