MUL `True Value' plans promos

NEW DELHI, Nov. 3
MARUTI Udyog Ltd's `True Value' used car business is planning innovative promotional schemes here to source cars for servicing the programme, the lone dealer running the programme has said.
Confronted with the difficulty of sourcing sufficient number of good cars that adhere to quality check norms, D.D. Motors, the Maruti dealer which runs the programme, is now thinking of a tie-up with movies and launch other schemes.
Within two weeks of officially launching the programme here, True Value has a backlog of over 260 customer requests to fulfill.
But it is ``unable to do that as good cars are not available'', Mr Rajiv Gambhir, Executive Director of D.D. Motors, said.
``Over 260 customers have come and registered with us for buying a pre-owned car. But the problem is sourcing good cars,'' Mr Gambhir said.
Mr Gambhir said True Value is planning to sponsor tickets to the forthcoming Karan Johar movie, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam.
``Customers bringing the car to us for evaluation would get tickets for this movie. Also, we are planning to come out with a scheme wherein we would offer very high price for the car in exchange for a new car,'' Mr Gambhir said.
Maruti Udyog, a joint venture between the Indian Government and Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, is expecting its recent diversification to non-manufacturing activities (such as True Value) to account for two per cent of its profits in the not so distant futur

The company intends to open five more outlets in the city for the used car business within a month. True Value will open outlets in 12 cities in the next year.
