IT for masses: High-level meet today

BANGALORE, Sept. 24

TOP infotech gurus, industry leaders and Government officials will meet in Bangalore on Wednesday to discuss a strategy on using information technology for better governance to the common man.

A seminar titled "IT for the common man: e-governance in Karnataka" is being organised jointly by the State Government and the Confederation of Indian Industry, Karnataka chapter.

The Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr S.M. Krishna, is scheduled to inaugurate the seminar, which is expected to discuss strategy to raise the e-governance standards. It will also focus on rural e-governance, opportunities for the private sector and case studies from Singapore and other States.

Among the experts participating in the event would be Microsoft India President, Mr Rajiv Nair; Wipro Infotech's Mr Suresh Vaswani; Digital Partners, Director, Mr Satish Jha; ITC (agri-business) Chief Executive Officer, Mr S. Sivakumar; Infocomm Development Authority, Singapore CEO, Mr Mohan Mirwani; and State Government officials.

The seminar assumes significance in the wake of the State Government taking lead in the IT revolution in the country and implementing e-governance programmes such as Bhoomi, the computerisation of land records etc.
