SriLankan Airlines handles record cargo

NEW DELHI, May 12

THE SriLankan Airlines' cargo centre at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Colombo handled a record 12,078 tonnes or 12 mkg of freight during March this year, which is the highest throughput in the history of the cargo centre.

In a statement, the airline said that the previous highest cargo handled by the centre was in November 2000, when it handled 12,024 tonnes. The centre handles all import, export and transhipment cargo through BIA, including freight for all other airlines and freighters that use the airport.
