AP govt warns private colleges on fee collection

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, May 20

THE Government on Tuesday warned the private unaided colleges of stern action, which may include cancellation of recognition, if they collect fee over and above the prescribed fee.

In a press release here, Mr Manmohan Singh, Commissioner and Director of School Education, said the Government allowed the colleges to collect Rs 10,000 towards tuition fee and Rs 800 as special fee.

``However, it was brought to our notice that most of the private unaided colleges of education have been charging huge amounts in excess of the prescribed fee,'' he said and cautioned to shun the practice.

Asking them not to collect any additional fee, the Commissioner asked the managements to return the excess they collected from the students.

He warned that the Government would book criminal cases against the offenders.
