Airlines Air India to operate more flights to Gulf Plans non-stop between Dubai-Goa Vimala Vasan
ABU DHABI, May 20 AIR India will operate a new non-stop direct flight between Dubai and Goa this summer. It has also scheduled a number of additional flights from the Gulf region to Indian destinations from the end of May till mid-September to meet the demand in the peak season. The operations to Goa will be on the Kuwait-Dubai-Goa sector, to be introduced from June, with departures from Dubai on Sundays and return flights on Mondays. A number of additional flights are also being operated from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Doha and Kuwait, bringing the total number of flights from the Gulf to India from the present 128 to 136 flights per week by the end of May, Capt P.P. Singh, Air India's Regional Director, Gulf and West Asia, told Business Line. The additional flights will be in operation from the end of May till September 15, but depending on the demand, many of the additional frequencies may remain on the airline's operations schedule for this region, Capt Singh said. "We will see how the new operations work and if they are successful, we may confirm them on the regular schedule after the peak season. With regard to the operations to Goa, we may increase the frequency if the response is good," he said. The once-weekly flight to Goa is in response to the growing demand for operations on that sector and in a bid to ecnourage tourist traffic through better connectivity. From May 21, Jeddah is being linked with Lucknow on a twice-weekly basis. A second flight has also been introduced on Sundays on the Jeddah-Hyderabad-Jeddah sector. Doha is being linked to Delhi with two flights a week. Both the flights will be via Abu Dhabi, thereby increasing the frequency out of Abu Dhabi to Delhi from three to five times a week. One flight linking Bahrain and Doha will operate to Calicut once a week, with the return flights also connecting the two Gulf cities. One flight will also be operated from Kuwait to Calicut and Trivandrum, the official added.
