Enterprise Resource Planning `Thrust on new tech greater in auto sector' V. Rishi Kumar
HYDERABAD, June 30 WITH the global automotive industry passing through a general slowdown following recessionary trends in the major markets, there is increasing thrust on new technologies, particularly in the customer care and relationship management space, according to Mr Malcolm Thorne, Vice-President, Dealer Services, Automatic Data Processing Inc. Speaking to Business Line, Mr Thorne said that India and the Asia Pacific along with North America and Europe were among the major markets which would see a similar trend, where automotive companies and their network of dealers would seek to leverage data centres and continue to build focused customer loyalty strategies. This has witnessed about 25 per cent of such enterprises and large dealer networks and their companies adopting the application service provider (ASP) based model. Mr Thorne, who was in India recently to commission ADP's research and development-cum-support centre in Hyderabad, said, "Many corporations have adopted various ERP solutions but what we provide is extremely focused on the automotive industry." Being a Web-based application, this solution integrates well with any existing ERP application and provides the flexibility and agility for enterprises and their network of dealers to handle their customers. The general slowdown has laid special emphasis on the need to service clients and build customer loyalty programmes. And this is where such business intelligence services, which provide timely alerts to their clients, have distinguished the players in the automotive industry. It is an area that has seen nearly 100 per cent growth last year in spite of slowdown in technology adoption in other verticals. The ADP solution can be provided both as an ASP model and as an integrated solution in a modular manner building on the necessary solutions as per the requirement.
