AP plan for more power sub-stations

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Government has embarked upon a programme of erecting 510 electricity sub-stations at a cost of Rs 1,006 crore during the next two years to meet the anticipated load growth and for supplying better quality power, according to the State Minister for Energy, Coal and Boilers, Mr K. Subbarayudu.

Mr Subbarayudu stated that Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd had come forward to extend financial assistance to the tune of Rs 548.33 crore for the programme. Financial tie-ups have also been made with Power Finance Corporation, Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme, the Union Government and Japan Bank for International Cooperation for implementation of the programme.

In a press release here on Saturday, the Minister stated that 272 substations were erected in the State last fiscal at a cost of Rs 280 crore. Following this, quality and reliability of power supply had improved substantially and the transmission and distribution losses were reduced to 26 per cent from 29 per cent.
