These include Vijayawada-Secunderabad-Vijayawada and Secunderabad-Bikaner-Secunderabad (weekly). It is also getting ready for new trains that pass through the zone. The other two new express trains that originate in the zone are Vijayawada-Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus) and Secunderabad-Guwahati-Secun- derabad (both weekly services). The two passenger trains would ply between Tirupati, Katpadi and Tirupati. Announcing this at a news conference here on Monday, Mr Stanley Babu, General Manager of SCR, said a tri-weekly express Yeswantpur-Nizamuddin-Yeswantpur, Chennai-Dehradun-Chennai weekly express, Ranchi (Hatia)-Yeswantpur weekly express and Muzaffarpur-Yeswantpur (via Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry and Vijayawada) would also be introduced. This apart, the Railways has also extended some trains to important places near by and increased frequency of some others. Besides, the railway zone has decided to speed up 16 trains, which include Visakhapatnam-Madras Express. Stating that the zone has spent Rs 38 crore in the last three years to improve passenger amenities, he said Rs 10 crore would be spent this year to further improve the facilities. In a bid to help out the physically challenged, the SCR has identified 11 stations where special facilities will be provided. The stations include Nellore, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati and the twin cities. Steps for Pushkaram: The SCR is making elaborate arrangements for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu. The SCR sees an additional traffic of 2.5 lakh every day during the 12-day event, beginning on July 30. "We have made necessary arrangements and set up a monitoring cell. We are also in touch with the State Government," Mr Stanley Babu, General Manager of the SCR told newspersons on Monday. The SCR is opening 60 booking counters at the focal points. Gearing up for the slated launch of MMTS (multi-modal transport system) in the twin cities, the SCR has decided to bring about changes in schedules of a number of trains that arrive and depart from Hyderabad and Secunderabad, particularly in the mornings and evenings. While getting ready for the MMTS launch on August 10, the SCR was going well ahead with the second phase of the transport system along the Secunderabad-Falaknuma stretch. The second phase is likely to be inaugurated on November 1, marking the Formation Day of Andhra Pradesh.
