Persisting poverty

The article "Tamil Nadu's assault on elitism" makes several pertinent points. It is surprising that a State that is No 1 in industrial employment; ranks No 2 in population control and literacy; has the lowest transmission and distribution losses and the highest power charges collection rate; has the second-best-run public distribution system; is No 2 in software exports; ranks No 3 in GSDP; has the country's most diversified State economy; leads in productivity in sugarcane, oilseeds and rice; and exports 35 per cent of its industrial production can remain so high in poverty levels?

All right-thinking people should ponder on this and hit back at all rent-seeking elements, whether in Government or outside.
