CETMA gears up for change of guard

Richa Mishra

New Delhi , July 22

CHANGE is inevitable. And gearing up for change of guard is the Consumer Electronics and TV Manufacturers' Association (CETMA).

"The second-week of September will see a new team heading the association," a CETMA official said.

The process to elect a new president, vice-president (four, one belonging to each region of the country), honorary secretary, honorary joint secretary, treasurer and executive committee members has been set in motion, an official told Business Line. "The entire process will end by beginning of September and the new team will take over at our annual function slated for middle of the month," he said.

There is a studied silence on the question of who will take over the mantle from Mr Rajeev Karwal, the CETMA President for three consecutive terms.

The members, however, agreed that there are some prominent players in the race for the top slot. According to the grapevine, the contest this time may be primarily between the North and the West zones.

Apart from the president, the vice-presidents who could also be in the running are Mr R. Zutshi (North), Mr Vivek Badrinath (South), Mr Ashok Mukherji (East), and Mr Anoop Kumar (West).

CETMA's role is basically to take stock of the industry scenario, analyse the reasons for failure, if any, and work out strategies to combat the same.

However, the burning issues right now facing the association is pricing and conditional access system.
