Human Resources Bengal Govt staff plan stir against SC ruling Our Bureau
Kolkata , Aug. 13 THE State Government employees are contemplating to go on an indefinite strike against the recent Supreme Court order against their right to strike, according to Mr Sukomal Sen, General Secretary of All India State Government Employees' Federation. Mr Sen disagreed with the recent Supreme Court stand on Government employees' right to strike in connection with the employees' strike in Tamil Nadu. ``The entire community of State Government employees and the total trade union movement of the country are shocked to hear of such an order," Mr Sen told reporters at a press conference. According to him, employees' right to strike emanates from the Fundamental Rights of the Indian Constitution. ``Our members all over the country are staging protests against it. Today, the Government employees of Kashmir are protesting against the order,'' he said. The federation has decided to write letters against the Supreme Court order to the Prime Minister and the MPs. It will also contact legal luminaries, academicians and prominent personalities for garnering support against the order. The federation will try to organise a national convention on this issue too. A decision on it will be taken in its national executive committee meeting to be held on August 17 and 18. ``We want a national debate on this issue. We will decide on the next course of action during that meeting. If necessary, we may go on strike against the Supreme Court order,'' Mr Sen said.
