Software Oracle India centre working on grid computing tools Our Bureau
Bangalore , Aug.13 WITH grid computing emerging as a thrust area for enterprises globally, the stage is set for a surge in this new paradigm in the enterprise wide computing that will make access to data and information an easy real time process.
The Director of Server Technologies, Oracle India, Mr S.R. Ravi Shankar, who handles product development work in the company's India Development Centre in Bangalore, told visiting journalists, that the IDC was working on a range of technology solutions that will facilitate the grid computing pattern as also on the Itanium initiative. Explaining the functioning of grid computing framework as against the conventional consolidated infrastructure, Mr Shankar said this had several advantages and provided seamless management of data for enterprises from a user perspective. Mr Shankar said that dedicated teams at Oracle IDC were working on several areas to support to enterprise grid computing related solutions. The IDC at Bangalore is engaged in creating tools and systems that allow businesses to define and manage and reconfigure their businesses while leveraging its existing infrastructure. The Oracle IDC released a Globus Development Kit that enables developers across the world to use these tools to build functionalities. A lot of heuristic and management functionalities will be built into such systems where RACs or Real Application Clusters will aggregate, Mr Shankar explained. This is expected to pave the way for low cost computing backed by Linux operating systems. With consolidation, this will move towards the virtualisation process within a given environment. With consolidation, while the computational power will increase, it will also help in optimally utilising resources, he said. Mr Shankar along with senior members at IDC, detailed the strategic role the IDC was playing in the Oracle's global operations.
