Posting Web pages

N. Feroz

I have learned how to create Web pages using Applet, HTML, DHTML and Javascript. How do I post these pages to a Web site? I also want to know how I can connect the database in Applet Web pages.

Solution by NIIT

There are free Web hosting sites where you can upload your Web pages to. Here is the link where you can find the listing of free hosting sites: http://www.ftpplanet.com/webmaster/free_web_host.htm.

You can connect to the database either through JDBC if using Java or through ASP (Active Server Pages.)

Mail settings

S. Densingh

I am using Eudora Light as my Yahoo mail box. In the settings of the incoming mail I give ``pop.mail.yahoo.com'' and in the outgoing mail, I give ``smtp.mail.yahoo.com.'' This setting works well for me.

Now I want to configure my mail box to Hotmail settings since I use Hotmail ID as my personal mail ID. What are the incoming and outgoing settings for Hotmail. Please tell me how I go about the process.

Solution by NIIT

Eudora Light doesn't support HTML protocol. In order to download all the mail messages from your Hotmail account, you need to have Outlook Express 5.0 or above which comes free with Internet Explorer 5.0 or above. Only Outlook express allows you to configure your Hotmail account. Hotmail doesn't provide POP access so you cannot configure your e-mail client for it.

Here are the steps to be followed to configure your Outlook Express for Hotmail account: Goto tools->Accounts->Mail Tab->Add->Mail The wizard will pop up and enter the Name.... Click Next. Check I already have an e-mail address and type your address in the box provided. Click Next. Select HTTP as incoming mail server and Select Hotmail as mail service provider. Click Next. Type your hotmail account address as given in the example and the password and Click next. Now you can access your mail.

Error message

T. Manjunath Singh

Whenever I start my computer, I get the following messages on the desktop: Cannot find INETD.EXE (or one of its components). Make sure the path and file name are correct and that all required libraries are available. Could not load or run INETD.EXE specified in the WIN.INI File. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it with WIN.INI file. Please suggest a solution.

Solution by NIIT

Your computer has been infected by a worm. This worm spreads under Win32 operating systems. The virus sends e-mail messages with infected files attached and also installs a spying trojan component to steal information from infected systems. It is distributed through messages of electronic mail using MAPI. In Windows 9x, it modifies file WIN.ini adding a line "run={Windows path}\INETD.EXE" while in Windows NT, it will add the following entrance to the registry of the system: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Windows.

In order to remove it from WIN 9x, follow these steps:

1. Modify file WIN.ini, erasing the entrance { Windows path}\INETD.EXE of the field "run"

2. Erase the file INETD.exe that is within the directory \Windows.

Data copying

Raghu

When I use my computer for any large-scale data copying, such as .dat files, my system shows a disk cleanup message, even though the disk apparently has enough space. Even when I go for defragmentation of the disk, it continues to show error messages. Please suggest a solution to this problem.

Solution by NIIT

To copy a large chunk of data, please check that the drive in which you are copying data, suppose c: drive, should have enough disk space and secondly delete everything from your temp folder. Your temp folder is full, that is why it displays the disk cleanup message. You may use scandisk to check the bad sectors in your hard disk.

Please e-mail us at eworld@thehindu.co.in if you have queries on computer usage or if you find an interesting way of using the computer.
