Forex reserves up $160 m

The country's foreign exchange (forex) reserves have increased by $160 million to $39.637 billion for the week-ended December 15, from $39.476 billion during the previous week.

The forex reserves have been steadily increasing ever since the $5.5-billion India Millennium Deposits (IMD) scheme. According to the Weekly Statistical Supplement (WSS) of the RBI, loans and advances provided by the RBI to the Central Government have declined by Rs 3,382 crore to Rs 3,844 crore as on December 15, from Rs 7,226 crore during the previous week. The year-on-year money supply declined to 16.2 per cent for the two weeks ended December 1.
