Australian university set to open new campus in Singapore

MAKING PROGRESS: Students at a college laboratory. With foreign universities set to open branches in Singapore, the multi-ethnic City-State is poised to make great strides in education.
Indian high school students will have the opportunity to study at Singapore's first comprehensive international university when UNSW Asia opens its doors in March 2007.
UNSW Asia is a comprehensive research and teaching institution, owned and operated by the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia.
The proximity between the two countries will provide students the opportunity to live and study in Singapore, at an international campus.
Courses have been designed to equip students with a broad range of communication, research and management skills, as well as in-depth knowledge about their chosen field.
They will also be given the opportunity to move between the Sydney and Singapore campus.
Programmes will be offered in areas ranging from commerce and engineering to international studies, some of which will be available in double degree programmes. The university will focus on undergraduate and research programmes in its first year. Postgraduate programmes will be offered from 2008.
UNSW belongs to the Group of Eight a consortium of the eight leading research universities in Australia.
