Cool cottons
Exquisite variety ... in tune with the season.
SUMMER WEAR comes to Chennai in cool `sherbati' pastels, in mellow tones of the earth and in bright contrast colours.
Sharmila Taneja of Hyderabad presents a summer fest of cool cotton ensembles created specially for the city's hot and humid summer. The salwar kurta ensembles, kaftans and dupattas are made out of the finest cotton and mull, organdie and thin silk.
The ensembles and kaftans are lightly embellished with kundan and mirror work, a touch of `badla' and `khadi' giving them a touch of evening glamour while retaining an uncluttered, minimalist look.
Many of these craft skills are used together as `fusion' pieces, especially in conjunction with exquisite hand block printing.
Sharmila has her own exclusive block design, ranging from summer flowers and Mughal motifs to abstract and modern art imagery.
In fact the block printed ensembles and kaftans in themselves offer an attractive range of choice in terms of design and colours.
Combined with a touch of badla, mirror work and kundan embellishment, Sharmila Taneja's block printed ensembles are transformed into designer pieces.
Moderately priced the collection includes morning, afternoon and eveningwear.
The exhibition-cum-sale, which is on at Vimonisha Art Gallery, Khader Nawaz Khan Road, ends tomorrow.
